Entrepreneurs thinking about opening a business or moving into a new space should do so now, while the rent is cheap and perks are plentiful, real estate and business experts say.
'It's a buyers' market'
Commercial landlords, scrambling to fill empty buildings during a tough real estate market, are offering incentives such as rent abatement and moving allowances, and some are paying for renovations or improvements.
"The competition among commercial landlords is at an all-time high," said Bill Lichwalla, president and CEO of Plante Moran CRESA, a real estate consulting firm in Southfield. "There's more space than demand."
