 Grosse Pointe Public Library

Grosse Pointe, MI

The Grosse Pointe Public Library had outgrown its existing locations and needed new facilities to improve service offerings and increase visitation. Plante Moran CRESA assisted the Library plan its expansion at two new sites, and complete construction. Since opening, the new libraries have experienced a twenty percent increase in usage.

"We had two successful building projects that both came in under budget. A large part of that success was due to Plante Moran CRESA’s guidance during the project. I hope to do more work with them in the future."

Vickey Bloom, Grosse Pointe Library Director

Challenges

(1) Growth: The library had outgrown its current facilities. They had identified new locations, but needed help with design and construction. (2) Environment: The new libraries had to be representative of the community and enhance surrounding neighborhoods. (3) Expertise and Availability: The Library recognized a need for a partner to bring project management expertise.

Solutions

Plante Moran CRESA worked with the library’s design team to maximize building efficiency on restrictive sites. By providing value engineering, PMC increased the square footage of one branch over 30 percent of the original design, without increasing the budget. Project management services led to facility completion in 20 months, under budget, with $210,000 in savings transferred back to the libraries. Plante Moran CRESA coordinated building moves, furniture procurement and commissioning.
